Nationality
On this page
A person's nationality, named by country code: GB.
Use it for the nationality on a passport or a form. For where someone or something is, use Country, which holds the same codes and means something different.
Shape
One of 260 values, such as Nationality.ad, written AD. Details has them.
Example
Nationality.gbtext.parse(raw, as: Nationality) reads one from text that comes from outside. Text that isn't one at all fails malformed, such as GBR, British or UK.
Good to know
- Each value is its country code in lower case:
Nationality.inis Indian. ==tells you whether two are the same.<andlist.sort_bydon't take it.- A field that holds one counts as personal data (
demographic), so you don't mark it yourself.
In JSON
A string, in a request, a response or json.write:
"FR""GB"

Text form
text.from writes one standard text form, the same form text.parse reads back: FR and GB.
How it is stored
It is stored in one column named for the field, of type text. GB is stored as 'GB'.
How it is shown to people
text.format(value, locale:) shows it to people in their locale.
With locale: Locale.en_gb:
| Value | Shown |
|---|---|
FR |
France |
GB |
United Kingdom |
Operations
It also takes text.parse, text.from, text.format, json.read, json.write and ==. How every standard type behaves says how they work.
